This policy explains what Knowvale collects, why, and what you can do about it. We try to collect only what we need to run your study companion.
What we collect
Account details: your email, a securely hashed password, your date of birth, and your country and region. We use your birthday to confirm you’re 13+ and, with your country, to set your school year and load the right curriculum.
Your materials: the files, images, recordings, websites and text you add to a subject, plus the study tools we generate from them.
Usage: basic records needed to operate the service, such as which subjects and tools exist and when sessions in your routine are completed.
How we use it
To provide the service: storing your materials, extracting text, creating embeddings for search, generating study tools, and personalising your year and curriculum. We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t use your private materials to train third-party models.
AI processing
To answer questions and generate study tools, relevant excerpts of your materials are sent to our AI providers (for language models, transcription, and text-to-speech) so they can return a result. They process this data on our behalf to fulfil your request.
Where it’s stored
Your data is stored in our database and object storage. Uploaded files live in private storage and are served to you through short-lived links. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.
Your choices
You can view and remove individual subjects and materials at any time. From Settings you can edit your name, change your year, reset your materials at the end of a school year, or wipe all your data. Wiping is permanent.
Children
Knowvale is for students aged 13 and over. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a younger child has signed up, contact us and we’ll remove the account.
